// a boot manager for this decade

Boot with the power of GRUB,
with the looks of the future.

A minimal, fast, graphical UEFI boot manager written in C. One ~340 KB binary. No dependencies. Just a config file and your imagination.

// the good stuff

Everything built in.
Nothing bolted on.

A menu that actually looks good

Double-buffered, flicker-free, animated. Frosted-glass highlights, wallpaper-matched Material accent colors, GIF + MJPEG MP4 + compact VBG wallpapers, themes, live clock, screensaver, mouse and touch — your boot screen finally matches your rice.

Zero-config

Delete boot.conf and Visor still finds Windows, UKIs, and kernels — and derives a correct root= cmdline by itself, btrfs flags included.

Live USB hotplug

Plug a stick in while the menu is open — it animates in. Pull it out — it slides away. No other boot manager does this.

File browser

Press B to browse every readable volume and boot any kernel, initrd or .efi straight from the menu.

Encrypted boot

Kernel and initrd live encrypted on the ESP. One password decrypts them and unlocks your LUKS root.

Btrfs snapshots

Browse snapper and Timeshift snapshots in the menu and boot one, once. Rescue without a live USB.

Secure Boot aware

Verifies through shim, refuses unverifiable images, and tells you exactly why the firmware said no.

Live clock

Firmware-RTC clock that ticks without redrawing the whole menu — position, 12h/24h, seconds, date, frost and shadow, header-aware. Keep it on the screensaver if you like.

Screensaver

Idle dim to background + clock, then blank to black — wakes on any key or pointer. Animated wallpapers idle while blanked.

Measured boot

TPM2 PCR 5 for boot.conf, PCR 12 for the cmdline, plus Boot Loader Interface (Loader*) for bootctl / bless-boot.

Debuggable

Every step logs one line. Failed boots land in a recovery console, not a black screen.

// one menu, any wallpaper

Animated or not, it matches.

// engineered, not decorated

Small. Fast. Responsive.

C

Written in C

Freestanding, zero external dependencies, fixed-point math only — no float, no libm, no runtime to break. BSD-2 licensed.

~1s

Fast

Power button to menu in about a second, even with filesystem drivers installed — they load lazily, you don't wait.

340KB

Tiny & responsive

One binary on your ESP. GPU-direct rendering with write-combined framebuffers; input never lags, animations never stutter.
